FRANKLIN, Ind. -- A former Greenwood man was recently convicted of a sex crime involving a minor in Johnson County, according to a news release from the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office.

On Wednesday, David Bailey was convicted by a Johnson County jury of one count of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Level 4 felony. This comes after an investigation by the Greenwood Police Department which uncovered that Bailey was reported to have sexually abused a child from 2019 until 2021.

“I am moved by the courage of our young victim who came forward and was willing to face her tormentor in open court," Brianna Acker, a prosecutor in Johnson County's Sex Offender and Domestic Violence unit, said in the release. "Without her, we wouldn’t be able to protect other children from this criminal.”

The release said that jurors found Bailey guilty on Wednesday after 37 minutes of deliberation.

"A lot of people don’t realize how difficult and heartbreaking this type of work is. We appreciate our sex crimes detectives for protecting our children," Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in the release. "I also appreciate the hard work and dedication of our deputy prosecutors in the SODV unit. Putting these deviants in prison where they can’t hurt more kids is what they do every day. I’m very pleased to see yet another pervert facing more than a decade in a steel cage. It’s where they belong.”

Officials said Bailey is scheduled to be sentenced at 10 a.m. on Sept. 6. Bailey is expected to face up to 12 years in prison.
