NEW PALESTINE, Ind. — A man described by police as a "serious violent felon" has been arrested following a multi-county chase that ended in New Palestine involving the suspect and IMPD.

The New Palestine Police Department posted Thursday afternoon that a 37-year-old man who had been previously convicted of a violent felony had been arrested after fleeing police.

NPPD said that their officers were dispatched this afternoon to help IMPD with a chase involving a possibly armed suspect that was headed east on US-52 toward Hancock County. Multiple New Pal officers reportedly responded and were able to use stopsticks to end the pursuit.

Police said that the stop stick deployment was successful and that all four tires of the suspect's car were deflated just west of the 500 W and US 52 intersection. After this, IMPD reportedly used a PIT maneuver to help crash the car and end the pursuit near US 52 and Depot Street.

Responding officers then reportedly took Indianapolis resident Tommie Gordon into custody without further incident. Police said they found illegal narcotics and a shotgun inside Gordon's car.

Photos of the arrest, provided by NPPD, can be seen below:

"Out of abundance of caution, and due to the proximity of the vehicle pursuit, New Palestine Officers requested that the high school go on a safe-secure status to ensure the safety of all students and staff," NPPD said. "We would like to thank the school for their quick response and trusting our department."

Online court records show that Gordon has previous convictions for a number of offenses including dealing meth, possessing a destructive device, illegally carrying a handgun, driving while suspended, driving without a license, narcotics possession and more.

No other information was immediately provided by NPPD. FOX59/CBS4 has reached out to IMPD for more information.
