LEBANON, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after a woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash in Boone County Thursday afternoon.

Deputies with the Boone County Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 2:21 p.m. to the intersection of County Road 500 South and State Road 39 in response to reports of a crash involving a dump truck and pickup truck.

BCSO said preliminary information indicates a silver and red 1994 GMC 1500 pickup truck was traveling northbound on State Road 39, where it entered Boone County from neighboring Hendricks County. Dispatch received calls from witnesses who reported that the pickup truck was reportedly driving "recklessly" prior to the crash.

At one point, the pickup truck exited its travel lane and struck a dump truck in a head-on collision. BCSO said deputies found both vehicles in the middle of the roadway, each displaying significant damage caused by the crash.

The deceased individual was identified as 43-year-old Nicole Spann of Thorntown. The driver of the dump truck was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation as deputies will continue to determine what caused the pickup truck to exit its travel lane.

The Lebanon Fire Department, Lebanon Police Department and Boone County EMS also assisted at the scene.
