PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. — A Coatesville man has died after a crash in Putnam County, according to the Indiana State Police.
Officers were dispatched to the junction of US 40 and State Road 240 on a report of a crash between a sedan and a pickup truck on Wednesday.
The initial investigation indicated that around 4:20 p.m., a 2004 Lexus was attempting to go eastbound on US 40 from southbound State Road 240. The state police allege that the driver of the Lexus did not observe the 2021 Ford pickup truck that was traveling westbound on US 40. The driver of the Ford reportedly attempted a "evasive" driving maneuver but was unable to avoid the collision.
The force of the collision caused the Lexus to travel off the roadway, roll over on its top, and come to a stop. Kent Smith, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene.
