INDIANAPOLIS -- A child is dead after being pulled from a body of water on the west side of Indianapolis Monday evening.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 6:29 p.m. to the 7200 block of Causeway Drive, the listed address for Astoria Park Apartment Homes, in response to a child missing report that was later upgraded to a dive rescue.
IMPD said officers arrived and found an individual believed to be the missing child "unresponsive" in a nearby pond. The officers immediately provided CPR and other life-saving techniques in an attempt to revive the child.
First responders on the scene confirmed to FOX59/CBS4 that the child was successfully retrieved from the water, treated on scene and transported to an area hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.
On Tuesday, The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 5-year-old Roby Chacreton.
IMPD is leading the investigation to learn more about the circumstances of the incident.
