Officers reported arriving on scene and discovering a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead from their injury.

"First and foremost, IMPD wants to extend our heartfelt condolences to the ones we lost," IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown said. "Any loss of life is a tragedy in our eyes."

IMPD said the victim is believed to be a male juvenile. His exact age hasn't yet been released.

Police said the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident and all parties involved are accounted for. A person of interest is in police custody.

At this time, no additional information has been released.

FOX59/CBS4 spoke with several people living in the area who describe the neighborhood as a quiet and peaceful spot. Many of those neighbors said they have never heard any gunfire in the area.

"It’s the kind if neighborhood you can sit out on your front porch and patio and relax without fear of anything," said neighbor Harold Walton.

Walton said he has lived in the area for 10 years and said he is still trying to wrap his head around Tuesday's incident.

"It’s been kind of devastating, you know, that this has happened," he said. "I’m praying for all of the whole family."

While the circumstances around the shooting are still unclear at this point, Walton said he has a message for anyone who picks up a firearm.

"Put the guns away," he said. "Communicate. Talk."

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
