INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police have arrested a man they say drove more than 100 mph in a 45 mph work zone along Interstate 465 in Indianapolis.

Kristopher Harmon, 22, was arrested around noon Tuesday for reckless driving after being pulled over along I-465 northbound on Indy's southwest side.

ISP Sgt. John Perrine said that troopers saw Harmon speeding in his car at 107 mph near the 9.2-mile marker of 465. A photo shows radar clocked Harmon's car going 106 mph.

Harmon reportedly raced through a 45 mph work zone where INDOT employees were working.

Online court records show a man with Harmon's same name and date of birth was pulled over just three days prior on July 27 for speeding and driving with expired plates. He was officially charged on Monday.

The same man also has another speeding charge from July 2023.

In Indiana, reckless driving as a first-time offense is a Class B misdemeanor and is punishable by up to a year of license suspension, 180 days in jail and $1,000 in fines.

INDOT is currently taking new steps to help curb speeding in Indy-area work zones.

Next month, the department will start a pilot program that allows workers to put speed cameras in construction zones. The first cameras will be set up along Interstate 70 in Hancock County.

These cameras will reportedly snap pictures of license plates on cars that are seen going at least 11 mph over the posted speed limit. INDOT officials said they will announce three more work sites where cameras will be installed later this year.
