MUNCIE, Ind. — The Delaware County Circuit Court No. 5 sentenced an Anderson man to 66 years behind bars, following his guilty charge on June 27 for a 2022 shooting of a Daleville veteran in a cemetery.
On June 27, a jury found Alexander Geesy guilty of murder (an unclassified felony that results in 45-65 years in prison) and obstruction of justice (a Level 6 felony). They also found that Geesy used a firearm to commit the murder of William Randall Coomer. In accordance to Indiana law, the use of a firearm for the purpose of committing murder can allow courts to add an additional five to 20 years in prison, on top of the original sentence.
During the sentencing hearing, the judge in the case referred to Geesy as "a cowardly misfit without a conscious who only gained courage from strapping a gun on his hip". Initially, Geesy faced 56 years behind bars for Coomer's murder. However, the jury's discovery of the firearm enhancement led the judge to impose an additional 10 years.
“Today, Alexander T. Geesy was sentenced to 66 years in prison for Murder and Obstruction of Justice," Delaware County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Ramirez said. "William Randall Coomer was a veteran and small business owner prior to being shot in the back and murdered by Geesy at Sharp Cemetery in Daleville on July 22, 2022. Hopefully these convictions and this sentence will serve as some justice to the friends and family of Mr. Coomer.”
