LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A Tippecanoe School Corporation bus was involved in a three car accident on Monday morning while 31 students were on board.

According to a news release from the office, officials responded to a crash involving three vehicles in the 6800 block of US Highway 231 S at around 7:56 a.m. on Monday. An initial investigation found that the school bus was traveling south and had activated its amber lights to slow.

A driver of a Toyota Highlander was traveling north and began to slow for the bus. A semi tractor trailer was also traveling northbound and reportedly did not see the Toyota Highlander. The trailer reportedly struck the back of the Highlander, causing it to collide with the school bus.

Officials stressed there were no injuries to the 31 students on the bus or the bus driver. The driver of the Toyota Highlander had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the semi tractor trailer was not injured and was reportedly cited.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation. U.S. 231 S, which was closed for around one hour during the investigation, is now fully reopen.
