INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 16 years behind bars on Friday for his involvement in an October 2021 shooting, as well as a narcotics possession charge.
On Oct. 18, 2021, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Northwest District responded to a report of a person shot in the 5500 block of W 38th Street. Upon arrival, officers found an adult female with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, and IMPD said they began an investigation shortly thereafter.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jordan Montez Davis, a 27-year-old Indianapolis man. Initially, Davis faced:
- Two attempted murder charges (a Level 1 Felony)
- A battery by means of a deadly weapon charge (a Level 5 felony)
- The unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon (a Level 4 felony) and the carrying of said firearm when he had a prior felony conviction within the last 15 years (a Level 5 felony)
- A criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon charge (a Level 6 felony)
- A dealing in a narcotic drug of 10 or more grams charge (a Level 2 felony)
- A charge on possession of marijuana (a Class B misdemeanor)
However, all of these charges have been dismissed. Instead, Davis pled by agreement to:
- Possession of a narcotic drug (a Level 3 felony)
- Aggravated battery use when the assault poses a substantial risk of death or serious permanent disfigurement (a Level 3 felony)
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said Davis was sentenced to 18 years between the two counts. Davis will serve 16 years in prison followed by two years on home detention, according to the plea agreement.
