MUNCIE, Ind. — A clerk at a Muncie sex and romance shop told police that a 44-year-old man bolted from the store with a stolen spinning dance pole, prompting the clerk to chase after the thief and be shoved to the ground for her efforts.

Charles Koons of Muncie ended up being located by officers with the Muncie Police Department not long later in the 1800 block of E. Cornell Avenue. Police said not only was the dance pole found in the back of Koons' truck, but the man allegedly admitted to stealing the "stripper pole" — though he told officers he was willing to give it back.

Koons is being held in Delaware County Jail on a preliminary count of robbery resulting in injury, a Level 3 felony. Koons also reportedly resisted arrest when officers attempted to cuff him, leading to him facing a possible charge of resisting law enforcement.

According to court documents, Muncie police officers were called to the adult sex and romance shop, Cirillas, on Wednesday shortly before 7 p.m.

The clerk told police that a man, later identified by officers as Koons, entered the store and walked around for approximately three minutes before grabbing a boxed "360 spinning dance pole valued at $189" and bolting out the front door.

The clerk told police she ran after Koons but said Koons grabbed hold of her by the shirt collar and shoved her down.

Police found footage showing the theft but said there were no cameras in the parking lot where the alleged assault occurred.

After police located Koons, he reportedly admitted to the theft and stated he'd not eaten in multiple days, didn't have a job and had been unable to get one due to "only having a paper ID."

Koons denied shoving the clerk.

Muncie officers said that Koons resisted officers' initial attempts to handcuff him leading to Koons being taken to the ground to be cuffed.

The stolen dance pole was returned to the store.

The Delaware County Prosecutor's Office will review the police report and determine what, if any, charges will be filed against Koons.

Court records reveal Koons has faced legal trouble in the past including being sentenced to one year of probation for possession of meth just last month.

Last summer, Koons was also sentenced to probation for another possession of meth drug charge. Koons also has been charged multiple times with domestic battery in addition to further drug charges, court records reveal.
