INDIANAPOLIS — The 2024 Paris Olympic Games begin on July 26. Around 10,500 athletes will represent 206 different National Olympic Committees, many of which are a part of Team USA. But how many of those athletes come from the Hoosier state?
According to a study from LiveSportsOnTV.com, Indiana came in the top ten states for the largest representation at the Paris Olympics. It placed ninth, with 16 athletes from the state.
The ranking is based on a ratio of Olympic athletes to population size. For example, Pennsylvania boasts 26 athletes heading to France this summer, but its population is almost twice that of Indiana's. Therefore, even though it is sending more athletes over, it ranks 14th on the list in comparison to Indiana's ninth.
The top five rankings are as follows:
- Fifth: Vermont, with two athletes
- Fourth: California, with 123 athletes
- Third: Colorado, with 19 athletes
- Second: Hawaii, with five athletes
- First: Washington, D.C., with four athletes
Speaking on the rankings, Emil Sturesson of LiveSportsOnTV.com said "Our study highlights the incredible athletic talent spread across the United States, and we look forward to watching Team USA perform and seeing these athletes achieve their dreams on the world stage".
