COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (WANE) - The Columbia City Police Department is asking for the public's help to find the stolen badge of a retired chief who passed away - and a $1,000 reward is being offered in exchange.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, the badge of retired Chief Gordon Anspach was taken from a headstone in Greenhill Cemetery. It's unclear when exactly the badge was stolen.
The son of Ansapch was the one to discover the badge was stolen, according to the current chief of police, Gary Parrett.
"It's very disheartening to the department," said Chief Parrett. "It's a disappointment that somebody from the possibly from this community has done something like this. But the community has really stepped up and very supportive."
There are no leads as of Thursday evening.
Police said a $500 reward is being matched by an anonymous donor, making the total $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det/Sgt. Calhoun at 260-248-5128.
