PITTSBORO, Ind. — A man was shot during a dispute at a Pittsboro liquor store Friday night.

According to a press release, Pittsboro Police Department officers were dispatched to 24 E. Main St. (Cork and Cap Package Liquors) on a report of a person shot around 9:20 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

PPD officers rendered aid to the victim until medics arrived. According to PPD, the victim was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis "in what appeared to be stable condition."

Police indicated that the shooter remained on scene after the incident and was later detained.

After an investigation, officers determined the shooting stemmed from an argument between the suspect and the victim. The dispute escalated and then ended when the suspect wielded a gun and shot the victim.

PPD reported that all witnesses remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement. Police believe the incident does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.

Once its investigation has been completed, law enforcement will turn its findings over to the Hendricks County Prosecutor's Office. HCPO will then make final charging decisions in the case.
