INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis father is mourning a tragic anniversary. Exactly two years ago, a 15-year-old young man was shot to death on Indy's northeast side.

When police arrived to the scene, they found the 15-year-old victim lying right in the street.

That victim died after being taken to the hospital.

Sadayveon Edwards, 15, loved to play football, but those games came to an sudden end when his life was cut short.

“It's just unfair,” said the victim’s father Saleto Henderson. “He didn't even get a chance to live his life. It was taken.”

Saleto Henderson's son died after being shot on Meadowlark drive, around 1:30 on the morning of July 12, 2022.

“It's just feels like it happened yesterday,” said Henderson.

The last two years have been especially painful because no one has ever been held accountable for Sadayveon's murder.

“I think about him very day. I can't sleep at night. It stays on my mind all the time,” said Henderson.

The 15-year-old victim lived just a short distance from the scene of the shooting. His family believes he walked down the street to meet someone, but the motive for the killing remains unclear and police have never released any detailed suspect information.

“It's like people can kill people and get away with it nowadays. It's terrible,” said Henderson.

Saleto’s family isn’t alone.

In 2022, there were 19 total involving juvenile victims. Only three of those cases were solved resulting in criminal charges.

That’s why Saleto urges all parents to talk to their kids about avoiding violence.

“If you know they're carrying guns, reach out and give them a positive message. Stop them from doing these crimes,” said Henderson.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective James Hurt at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or email him at James.Hurt@indy.gov

Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 or (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
