CASS COUNTY, Ind. — A woman told police she jumped out a car and raced up to a stranger's house to escape a man who was battering her with a gun and holding her against her will.
Justin G.A. Vorhees, 34, of Macy was arrested on Wednesday and taken into custody by state troopers.
Vorhees faces multiple preliminary charges including criminal confinement while armed, a Level 3 felony; domestic battery with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery in the presence of a minor, a Level 5 felony; unlawful carrying of a handgun, a Level 5 felony; and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony.
According to Indiana State Police, Vorhees is accused of holding a woman inside a vehicle against her will and battering her with a firearm. While beating the woman with the gun, the firearm reportedly went off and fired a shot.
Police said the woman eventually jumped out of the car and ran up to a stranger's house to call for help. She was taken to a hospital for her injuries and Vorhees was located and arrested by state troopers.
Vorhees is being held in the Cass County Jail.
Court records reveal that Vorhees has a long history of criminal charges including pleading guilty to domestic battery in 2017. He spent time in county jail and on probation.
Vorhees also spent time in Miami County Jail after being found guilty of possession of methamphetamines in 2013.
