INDIANAPOLIS – A crash investigation turned into an investigation involving a shooting on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.
At least four people were injured.
Indianapolis Metropolitan police, the Indianapolis Fire Department and EMS were dispatched around 6 a.m. to North Harding Street and West 18th Street.
Video from the scene showed a passenger car and an IndyGo bus had collided in the intersection. A third vehicle nearby ended up being nothing but mangled mess of debris.
Images from the crash showed the IndyGo bus' windshield resting on the pavement.
According to IMPD, a woman was critically hurt in the crash. Police later determined she had also been shot; there was a police run for a shots fired call in the area minutes before the crash was reported. A second person was also taken to the hospital.
Aggravated Assault detectives were called to the scene.
IMPD later said two individuals arrived at an area hospital with injuries they believe were related to the crash. Their injuries did not involve gunshot wounds, police said.
According to IMPD, there were "several individuals" in the blue car that collided with the IndyGo bus and two people in the red car involved in the incident. Police didn't say if any passengers were on the bus, deferring the question to IndyGo.
The intersection will be closed for a while, according to IMPD.
IndyGo released a statement about the crash:
At this time, we don’t have anything further to report and will be cooperating with authorities as they investigate the incident.
