JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — A person has died after a motorcycle crash in Jackson County.

Officers were dispatched at 1:32 p.m. on Wednesday to the area of County Road 300 East and County Road 300 South in Brownstown Township on a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash involving a serious injury.

When crews arrived at the scene, they implemented resuscitative efforts. However, the victim, 66-year-old Kim C. Kaufman was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Jackson County Coroner's Office.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the preliminary investigation indicated that Kaufman was traveling westbound on County Road 300 South in a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Kaufman reportedly passed a car that was also westbound and allegedly attempted to pass a dump truck.

While attempting to pass the dump truck, Kaufman lost control of the motorcycle, according to a press release from the JCSD. The motorcycle struck a mailbox, and Kaufman was ejected.

An autopsy and toxicology testing is scheduled for Friday, July 5.

Information will be updated as it becomes available.
