INDIANAPOLIS – A deadly crash is under investigation near the Hancock-Marion county line.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed one person died. The IMPD Fatal Crash Investigation Team is now investigating.
According to IMPD, the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. at U.S. 52 and 800 West (Brookville Road and S. Carroll Road) and involved two vehicles.
One of the drivers died while the other was taken to an area hospital, police said.
“Please use an alternate route if you travel this way,” Hancock County 911 posted on social media earlier Wednesday morning.
"Due to the location on (the) county line, IMPD will be handling the crash and investigation. The intersection and roads will be closed for an extended time," the agency said.
IMPD asked drivers to avoid the area and said eastbound Brookville Road is closed at Kitley Road. S Carroll Rd is closed northbound from E. Troy Avenue and southbound from W 300 S.
The scene will remain active for at least a few more hours, IMPD said.
