Brief relief from the heat and humidity on the way

Wet start Sunday with needed rains

After many spots Sunday morning received needed rainfall, Central Indiana missed out on the severe weather and big-time rain totals. Some spots in the Chicago area received more than 5.0" of rain and some in northern Indiana received more than 1.50". Around here, the heavier downpours produced similar numbers but the bigger needed totals were few and far between.

The rain helped close our rainfall deficit a bit. However, June rainfall is still running below normal. If you got rain, your lawns thank you!

Marvelous Monday ahead

The associated cold front changed our airflow to come out of the northwest. By having this change occur, dew points will gradually drop. This will make Monday's forecast a nice one with seasonable temperatures and tolerable humidity levels. Not to mention we'll have sunny skies all day! However, this will only be temporary as the hot dome briefly expands overhead in time for Tuesday.

Hotter, more humid Tuesday ahead of midweek storms

Tuesday will be the hottest and most humid day of the week. Forecast highs are in the lower 90s and heat index levels will likely approach the upper 90s/near 100°. The daytime looks to be dry but this will set up our atmosphere ahead of the midweek system that will bring some storms to Central Indiana.

It's possible a few showers could occur Tuesday morning. However, this activity will be weakening and may not reach us at all. If it gets here, we may not be able to hit 90°. If it doesn't, 90s are still on the table. The highest rain chances exist late Tuesday into Wednesday. A couple of rounds of storms are possible and they could come with a severe threat. If this occurs, gusty winds would be the biggest threat along with heavy rain fueled by higher dew points.

More relief follows

A flattening jet stream and retreating hot dome provide more relief across Central Indiana beginning Thursday. High pressure will build in and give us a short stretch of comfortable but warm summer weather. Thursday's temperatures will be the coolest with forecast highs in the lower 80s. However, it's possible this could be brief as we're beginning to see signs of upper-level ridging that could make next weekend come with some storms. Stay tuned!
