INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after one person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning on Indy's near north side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just before 3:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2600 block of Carrollton Avenue on the report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found a man inside of a house with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound and in critical condition. The man is expected to survive his injuries, per IMPD.

As officers were helping the man, an armed male suspect ran into the house and officers detained him. Investigators say officers arrested the armed suspect for battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting law enforcement, and intimidation. Police could not confirm that the male they detained was involved in the shooting.

Moments after they detained the suspect, officers located a second individual just north at the intersection of North College Avenue and Fall Creek Parkway. Investigators believe the individual, who was later identified as an adult male, is connected to the Carrollton Avenue shooting. The man was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

While investigating, officers also found a third male in between two houses who had been shot and killed. Investigators believe the third individual is also connected to the shooting. Police indicated that they aren't sure how old the deceased male was.

The Marion County Coroner's office will release the decedent's name after his family has been properly notified of his death.

Detectives are still piecing together what happened, but they do believe the shooting was spurred by a party at a short-term rental property. Investigators have spoken with multiple witnesses, per IMPD.

Police encourage those with additional information on the incident to contact detective Michael Wright by emailing Michael.Wright@indy.gov or calling the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475.
