MUNCIE, Ind. — Southbound traffic on Interstate 69 was completely shut down due to a crane fire and fuel leak.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the vehicle fire occurred around 2 p.m. between Bethel Avenue and Trackside Road at mile marker 242 near the I-69 Yorktown exit. All southbound lanes were blocked for more than an hour.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Scott Keegan said the closure was caused by a crane catching fire combined with a fuel leak.
Traffic was diverted onto State Road 28 to State Road 3 and then onto State Road 67 during the closure.
Delaware County 911 Communications Center said the southbound lanes have since re-opened but traffic continued to move slowly through the area which is also a construction zone.
