INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services paramedic was arrested on Monday in the Meijer parking lot on E Washington Street after allegedly firing a gun at a woman her ex was seeing.

An officer from the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle of 26-year-old Cyan Pfeil in the Meijer parking lot, following a report that her vehicle had followed a woman who had heard gunshots coming from it.

According to court documents, even though Pfeil was instructed to stay inside the vehicle, she exited the car after telling the officer that there was a gun inside. Police searched the vehicle and did in fact find a 9mm handgun between the seat and the center console.

The officer spoke with Pfeil's ex, who was standing by in the parking lot. The court docs report the ex was visiting a woman at her residence and Pfeil had followed that woman to the E Washington Street Meijer. The ex allegedly told Pfeil that her quarrel was with him, not the woman, and said to police that he did not witness shots being fired.

Court documents suggest the contrary, however. Pfeil's ex told CMPD that he loaded Pfeil's magazines for her and that she never kept a round chambered. According to an officer, the handgun only had 11 rounds remaining in it, with one of those rounds actively chambered. There was also a casing located on Washington Street, which had matched the live rounds within the 9mm handgun.

"Indianapolis EMS was made aware of an incident involving one of our employees," IEMS said in a statement. "The employee is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation."

Pfeil is charged with two counts of criminal recklessness, a Level 6 Felony. If convicted, she could face up to 2.5 years in prison.
